Hamburg police shoot man who threatened officers before Netherlands-Poland match

Hamburg police announced on Sunday June 16 that they had injured a man who threatened officers with a pickaxe and an incendiary device.

The incident occurred outside a café, near the Reeperbahn, an avenue located in the Sankt-Pauli district, where, according to German media, thousands of fans were strolling before the Euro match 2024 between the Netherlands and Poland, which will be played from 3 p.m. Hamburg is one of the cities where the Euro football matches are taking place and a large police force has been deployed.

However, “there is no evidence showing that there is a link with football” and the match scheduled for the afternoon in the Hanseatic city between the Netherlands and Poland, a spokesperson for the local police, Thilo Marxsen, told Agence France Presse.
