SENEGAL-TABASKI-SOLIDARITE / Tivaouane: nearly 500 sheep distributed by the family of Serigne Babacar Sy – Senegalese press agency

Tivaouane, June 16 (APS) – The family of Serigne Babacar Sy distributed nearly 500 sheep for Tabaski to members of the maraboutic descendants of Tivaouane (west), dignitaries of the Tidjane brotherhood and vulnerable people.

This traditional distribution of sheep for Tabaski, which dates back to 1953, took place this year over three days, from Wednesday to Friday, in the courtyard of Serigne Babacar Sy, for the benefit of members of the Sy family and the “moukhadams” , representatives of the brotherhood in different corners of the country.

This solidarity action has been extended to people in need.

In addition to the grandsons of El Hadji Malick Sy and the “moukhadams”, women who work in the kitchens of Sokhna Oumou and Sokhna Aïda Kane are among the beneficiaries.

According to Khalifa Niang, manager of major events in the Tivaouane community, “the list of beneficiaries is around 500 people, because many needy people also benefit from the legendary kindness of Serigne Babacar Sy, who died on March 25, 1957”.

According to Serigne Babacar Sy Cissé, current caliph of the precursor of this initiative, Serigne Abdou Aziz Sy Al Amine spent tens of millions each year to perpetuate this tradition.

During the first edition, Serigne Aladji Cissé, a fervent disciple of Serigne Babacar Sy, offered the first caliph of Maodo Malick Sy a sheep which cost 30,000 FCFA at the time. The pretty ram was then an attraction at the Serigne Babacar Sy home in Tivaouane, he says.

After Serigne Babacar Sy was reminded of God, Serigne Abdou Aziz Sy Al Amine took up the torch, supervising the distribution of animals as each Tabaski or Aid el-adha approached.
