DAR ES SALAM, June 15 (Xinhua) — Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Saturday congratulated Cyril Ramaphosa on his re-election as president of South Africa.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the United Republic of Tanzania, I extend my sincere congratulations to His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa for the responsibility once again entrusted to him by the people of the Republic of South Africa to lead as president,” Ms. Hassan wrote on X.
She recalled that Tanzania and South Africa were sister republics, adding that she looked forward to continuing to work with him to strengthen the deep fraternal and historical ties between the two countries and the two peoples.
Cyril Ramaphosa, leader of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC), was re-elected by the National Assembly on Friday as the nation’s president for the next five years, after the May 29 general elections. did not produce an indisputable winner.
The elections marked a historic turning point for South Africa, ending three decades of dominance by the late President Nelson Mandela’s African National Congress.
