Sharjah – The specificity of Moroccan identity, forged by its history, civilization and heritage, was at the center of a scientific conference, held as part of the Sharjah International Book Fair, in the presence of a host of researchers and Moroccan academics.
The participants in this meeting stressed that the location of the Kingdom, with its two maritime facades, allowed it to open up to Europe via the Mediterranean and to the rest of the world via the Atlantic Ocean, noting that this asset geography has helped to forge the characteristics of this identity with multiple tributaries.
In this regard, sociologist Rahma Bourqia indicated that Moroccan identity is the reflection of belonging to a geographical, societal, cultural and cognitive space, explaining that the Moroccan personality has become stronger and influential thanks to its interactions with its external environment.
The Moroccan constitution reflects this richness by highlighting the tributaries who have shaped the Moroccan personality in its Arab-Islamic, Amazigh, Saharo-Hassani, African, Hebrew and Mediterranean dimensions, she added.
For his part, the historian Jamaâ Baida highlighted the unique qualities of Moroccan identity throughout history, marked by well-established values, customs and traditions, to which Moroccans remain attached both to the Kingdom and to abroad.
This personality is the fruit of a rich historical and cultural heritage that dates back several centuries, he argued, considering that Moroccan values and traditions remain deeply rooted within society.
Same story with the deputy director general of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Abdelilah Benarafa, who noted that the notion of the Moroccan personality is marked by various aspects linked to the richness of the historical heritage.
He affirmed, in this sense, that numerous historical testimonies show the evolution of this personality in her relationship with others and how she was able to establish herself as a true ambassador, through her scientific, cultural and intellectual achievements.
Placed under the theme “The Morocco of cultures in Sharjah of the book”, the Moroccan pavilion within the Salon offers a rich cultural program with no less than 107 events bringing together around a hundred writers, authors and publishers and covering various cultural, artistic and literary fields, in addition to a series of sessions dedicated to the discovery of Moroccan cuisine.
The pavilion also allows the public to discover Moroccan heritage through conferences, plays, artistic exhibitions, round tables, as well as workshops for children on decoration and weaving. Around 4,000 titles from 25 Moroccan publishing houses are exhibited there.
