Several major projects were inaugurated and launched, Friday in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, by the Director General of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), Tarik Hamane, on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Green March.
These projects are part of the implementation of the High Guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI so that the southern provinces become a driver of regional and continental development, through the development of all their potential.
Concerning electrical infrastructure projects, Mr. Hamane, accompanied by the wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate and elected officials, visited the Laâyoune Diesel power plant, an electrical production infrastructure with a power of 93MW, providing emergency power to the region.
In February 2024, this plant successfully passed an environmental management system certification audit in accordance with the ISO 14001-Version 2015 standard.
On this occasion, Mr. Hamane and the delegation accompanying him followed the progress of several projects to secure the electricity supply in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
In the Municipality of El Marsa in the province of Laâyoune, Mr. Hamane and the delegation accompanying him went to the water desalination station.
Mobilizing a total amount of 450 million dirhams (MDH), this station makes it possible to produce 26,000 m³ per day of drinking water through the desalination of sea water using the technique of reverse osmosis and by exploiting the latest technologies in material, in particular an energy recovery system to optimize the cost of production per m³ of desalinated water.
Subsequently, work was launched on the new 60/22 KV source station in El Marsa, for a total amount of 54 MDH. This large-scale project, which is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2026, will contribute to the economic and industrial development of the city of El Marsa.
Its objective is to supply, from this new source station, the important projects currently being carried out, in this case the new logistics and industrial activity park, the new desalination station and the subdivisions currently being carried out. .
Furthermore, the official delegation kicked off construction work on a socio-cultural center for electricians in Foum El Oued, in the wake of the strategy of the ONEE-Branch Council of Social Works Electricity- aimed at promoting social action and meeting the needs and expectations of electricians.
With a total investment cost of MAD 90 million, this center, which covers an area of 7.5 hectares, aims to diversify and improve the social services provided to members in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
In the province of Tarfaya, the CEO of ONEE inaugurated in the presence of the governor of the province, Mohamed Hamim and elected officials, a structuring project which consists of the commissioning of the 60/22 kV source station in Tarfaya, requiring a budget of 25 MDH.
This project mainly aims to ensure the security of supply to the city of Tarfaya via its connection to the high voltage network.
It will contribute, among other things, to the economic and industrial development of the city of Tarfaya by supporting the growing electrical energy needs of new industrial projects.
In the same province, MM. Hamane and Hamim went to the seawater desalination station for an additional flow of 15 l/s, where explanations were provided to them on the operation of this infrastructure.
The projects, including those launched and those commissioned today, are highly strategic and aim to strengthen and support the socio-economic dynamics of the southern provinces, as well as to consolidate their influence as an economic center and trait of union between Morocco and its African extension.
To support the development of the southern provinces, ONEE, in partnership with the public and private sectors, has carried out a series of structuring projects in the areas of production, transport, distribution of electrical energy, portable water and liquid sanitation management.
The investments made amount to 39.2 billion dirhams (billion dirhams), distributed between 31.5 billion dirhams for the Electricity sector, including projects developed within the framework of law 13-09, and 7.7 billion dirhams for the drinking water and liquid sanitation.
Among the main achievements is the connection of the southern provinces to the National Electricity Network, starting with Laâyoune in 1999, Dakhla in 2021, and today the province of Tarfaya.
As for the drinking water and sanitation sectors, these include desalination stations in the towns of Laâyoune and Boujdour and demineralization stations in Dakhla and Tan-Tan, as well as treatment stations. of Es-Semara and Assa.
