Tetouan – The 40th Congress of journalists from both shores opened on Friday at the Mediterranean Lawyer’s House in Tetouan, under the theme “Media from both shores: common challenges for the success of the 2030 World Cup”.
Organized by the Moroccan Press Association, in partnership with the National Union of the Moroccan Press (SNPM) – Tetouan Section, and the Press Association of the Strait of Gibraltar, this congress brings together Moroccan and Spanish journalists, as well as as researchers and experts in the field.
This event aims to exchange views on current issues of common interest, to strengthen constructive communication links and to promote the culture of dialogue between actors in the journalistic, academic and scientific research fields.
According to the organizers, this media and scientific and cultural event has succeeded, for more than two decades, in building bridges of communication between journalists and an influential segment of Spanish society, while establishing an effective parallel diplomacy at several levels and on current issues.
In a statement to MAP, the president of the SNPM, Abdelkebir Khchichen, stressed that the continuity and regularity of this congress testify to its success, as well as the solid relations of friendship which unite not only Moroccan and Spanish journalists, but equally the two peoples.
Khchichen, in this regard, noted that the joint organization of the 2030 Football World Cup is the fruit of this friendship between the Moroccan, Spanish and Portuguese people, stressing that Morocco is reaping the fruits of its orientation towards the North shore. to build partnerships and relationships.
He also noted that the Moroccan media must prepare properly for this major event, both in terms of training and logistics, given the fundamental role they will play in showing a beautiful image of Morocco.
For his part, the president of the Moroccan Press Association, Mustapha El Abbassi, stressed that this congress has always been an opportunity to debate current issues of interest to the Moroccan and Spanish people, specifying that this edition is dedicated examining the future prospects of sports journalism, particularly in the context of preparations for the 2030 World Cup.
Morocco, he continued, wants to approach this major event with competent journalists, capable of promoting and enhancing the assets of the country and the regions which will host these sporting events, as well as presenting an honorable media product which reflects the development that the Kingdom is experiencing, recalling that the SNPM and the Moroccan Press Association have set up a training and supervision program in preparation for this major sporting event.
As for the president of the Press Association of the Strait of Gibraltar, Javier Martinez, expressed the satisfaction of the Spanish journalistic delegation to renew ties with their Moroccan counterparts, and to continue the discussion on issues of common interest for the two countries, affirming that all conditions are met to ensure the success of the 2030 World Cup.
This congress will be marked by the organization of several thematic workshops, in particular on “the media and their central role in the success of common rapprochement” and “Which media for which audience on the horizon of the 2023 World Cup”, as well as by a tribute which will be given to journalist Anas Sordo, a leading figure in the local and regional sports press.
