UThe proposed decree aimed at recognizing Libramont-Chevigny as a town was tabled and taken into consideration on Wednesday in the Walloon parliament.
As a key municipality in the province of Luxembourg, Libramont-Chevigny plays an essential role in the development of the region and presents significant potential for the socio-economic basin of Centre-Ardenne, underlines in particular the proposal, coordinated by the president of the parliament Willy Borsus and supported by all the deputies of the Province of Luxembourg.
“Significant step”
With a population of 11,972 inhabitants as of January 1, 2024, Libramont-Chevigny, whose Agricultural Fair attracts more than 200,000 visitors each year, is the fifth most populous municipality in the province.
“This decree marks a significant step in the evolution of our municipality. The recognition of Libramont-Chevigny as a City is not only a symbolic title; it reflects our collective commitment to sustainable development and the development of our assets,” commented the local liberal mayor, Laurence Crucifix.
“This approach highlights the transformation of the municipality into a true urban center, anchored in the heart of rural life,” added Willy Borsus, also rejoicing that the text is supported by all the deputies of the province.
