Casablanca – The National Airports Office (ONDA) announced, Monday, the commissioning of a new transit zone at Mohammed V international airport in Casablanca, dedicated to passengers with international connections.

This new area has been designed to provide more space and better functionality, improving operational efficiency and passenger comfort.

Equipped with the latest generation of equipment, this modern transit zone strengthens security, reduces waiting times and streamlines circuits to offer a pleasant transit experience. The commissioning of this area responds to the growth in traffic at Mohammed V airport, thus consolidating its position as a major hub.

The new transit area covers an area of ​​5,000 square meters (m²) and includes 11 new check-in counters for transit passengers. Security equipment includes 10 cabin baggage EDS (Explosive Detection System) with automatic line, 7 magnetic gates, portable metal detectors, as well as 3 body scanners.

To improve passenger mobility, the area is equipped with 7 elevators and 8 escalators.

“Today we are putting into service a new transit zone for international passengers. This new zone, built on an area of ​​5,000 m², strengthens the fluidity of passengers and the performance of the civil aviation control and security system,” indicated the Director of Mohammed V Airport, Abdelhak Mazour, in a statement to the press on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the new zone.

He added: “The airport welcomes a significant number of transit passengers, transported from south to north and from east to west. Faced with this increase in traffic, it was essential for us, in collaboration with Royal Air Maroc (RAM), to provide a fairly large area capable of handling up to two million passengers per year, which is significant” .

In terms of strengthening security measures, Mr. Mazour continued, ONDA has installed very high-performance equipment, capable of detecting both liquid and solid explosives, to guarantee the most comfortable transit conditions possible. .

“This equipment is available to our security partners so that they can work in optimal conditions,” he stressed.

With this new transit zone, Mohammed V International Airport continues to develop and adapt to the growing needs of passengers, while preparing for the major sporting events that Morocco is preparing to host.
