A week after the terrible floods which caused the death of more than 200 people in Spain, solidarity is organized to support the tens of thousands of victims. In France, the inhabitants of Pyrénées-Orientales and Perpignan, historically very close to the Valencia region, appear particularly active.
A whole truckload of bottled water
If many residents responded to the call for donations from the municipality of Perpignan, since Tuesday, November 5, a supermarket in the city has also shown great generosity. The Super U on Boulevard Desnoyes decided to act and managed to collect many bottles of water, which will leave for Spain in the coming hours.
The discreet store manager, who wished his name to remain anonymous, announced it to News Perpignan : “It’s almost an entire heavy weight of bottles of Cristaline water” which will be offered to the Spanish disaster victims, i.e. 20,160 one and a half liter bottles of water (more than 30,000 liters of water).
To make this magnificent donation, the Perpignan supermarket was able to count on the support of the brand's other stores:
When the City of Perpignan posted its call for donations, it seemed logical to me to respond. Within the hour that followed, I sent an email to all my fellow associates in the region. By early morning, half of the stores in Languedoc-Roussillon had already responded, and I still receive emails and phone calls every hour.
“We cannot be insensitive”
The director of Super U Perpignan is particularly concerned by the tragedy which affected the surroundings of Valence. “The Spanish community is very present in Languedoc-Roussillon. Myself, my father was born in the South of Spain. I have friends who have family there. We cannot be insensitive to what happened to them,” says the latter.
In addition to water bottles, three pallets of milk will also be offered to Valencian disaster victims. “This is a first contribution, and I hope to be able to mobilize our brand a second time if there are needs,” concludes the business manager.
