A positive outcome for the 5th Fierté Val-d’Or festival

The 5th Val-d’Or Pride festival concluded this Sunday with the presentation of the great pride march.

This was the 16th march organized by the organization which was created 24 years ago.

The president of Fierté Val-d’Or, Maryse Ouellet, said she was very satisfied with the progress of the event.

It was beyond our expectations. We had a lot of people, festival-goers on the ground throughout the festival. We had some super grandiose shows too, that helped us a lotshe says.

Ms. Ouellet estimates that between 2,000 and 2,500 people have visited the festival site since Thursday.

For us, it’s mission accomplished, after the disastrous year we experienced last year because of the fires. This year I think we bounced back in a great way.

As for Sunday afternoon’s march, Maryse Ouellet believes that the weather may have dampened the enthusiasm of certain potential participants.

There were a little fewer people. Maybe they were afraid of the rain. But I would say there were about 200 people at the march, so it’s still good. People, there were some who arrived colorful with flags, we had a big minibus which led the way and which was decorated with pride flags. We also had the group KaraoKings to lead the marchshe describes.

Maryse Ouellet is also delighted to see the diversity of visitors who have visited the festival site in recent days.

We want to break down barriers, as well as acceptance from the population. We’re not doing anything to shock people or anything because I can guarantee you that this weekend, we had a lot of allies who had never come to our festival and who came to see the shows that we offered.
