Abdourahmane Ridouane, president of the Pessac mosque, was released Wednesday morning from the Administrative Detention Center where he had been held since August 8, according to information obtained by Anadolu. Back in Gironde, he was warmly welcomed by his supporters at the station.
Although he is now free after spending 90 days in detention, Ridouane is under house arrest in Pessac. He must report three times a day to the municipality that he cannot leave, being his place of residence.
Next January, he will appear in court for having shared a publication on the social network X describing Ismaïl Haniyeh as a resistance fighter. His lawyer, Maître Sefen Guez Guez, denounced what he considers to be a “SLAPP procedure” aimed at preventing his release.
The Interior Ministry reported Ridouane’s comments, which it considers to be an apology for terrorism. This accelerated action was criticized by Ridouane’s lawyer, especially in comparison with the slowness of similar investigations.
In September, the Council of State rejected Ridouane’s appeal against his expulsion from France. He ruled that his publications justified this expulsion. However, previous decisions had considered that his publications did not threaten the state.
Ridouane, of Nigerien nationality, could not be deported to his country of origin due to the lack of response to a request for a consular pass. The Gironde prefecture announced that it would make a new report for “lack of cooperation”.
