Agricultural exports are holding up despite the drought, according to Akhannouch – Telquel.ma

LDuring the monthly oral questions session in Parliament, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch highlighted that the Kingdom’s agricultural exports had not only withstood successive drought seasons but also recorded record numbers.

In 2023, the value of exports reached 83.2 billion dirhams, thus surpassing the historic threshold of 80 billion dirhams crossed for the first time in 2022. In September 2024, they already reached 62.2 billion dirhams, ensuring the sector the second place among the exporting sectors of the country.

This dynamism, explains Akhannouch, can be explained by several factors. In addition to increasing the prices of agricultural products on international markets, Morocco has diversified its outlets, improved the quality of its products and strengthened their health standards, thanks to the efforts of local farmers.

To support this growth, the government is considering several technological solutions. At the top of the list is the project for a new desalination station in Dakhla, planned for 2025, which would irrigate 5,000 hectares of agricultural land. This project is part of a broader water security strategy, aiming to ensure the sustainability of Moroccan agriculture despite climatic hazards.
