The President of the Republic of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, called on the leaders of the Turkic world to take a decisive stance regarding the genocide in Gaza.
The Turkish President delivered a speech on Wednesday in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, at the 11th Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OET).
Erdogan deplored the failure of the international community to end the genocide taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza.
“The international community is failing miserably to end the genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly Gaza,” he said.
The Turkish president said he did not accept this “atrocity” and this “inhumane massacre” in Gaza, urging the Turkish world to adopt a “decisive” position.
Israel has continued a devastating offensive on Gaza since the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, which killed nearly 43,400 people and left the enclave almost uninhabitable.
Erdogan also invited the leaders of the OET member states to “work with all their might to make the coming years the century of the Turkic world”.
He also expressed his conviction that Azerbaijan’s achievements on the ground would be consolidated by the signing of a peace agreement.
In 1991, the Armenian army occupied Karabakh, territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent regions.
In September 2023, Azerbaijan will establish full sovereignty over Karabakh following an “anti-terrorist operation” in which separatist forces in the region surrendered.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have yet to sign peace treaties and normalize relations.
