The operation aimed at facilitating the surrender of private or privatized weapons, as well as the collection of ammunition, continues in 2024 with four additional half-days of collection again organized throughout the canton.
In order to strengthen the control and monitoring of stranded weapons, Operation Vercingétorix offers favorable conditions for the voluntary surrender of weapons, private or privatized, that have become unwanted. Ammunition can also be brought back as part of this operation.
Since 2013, nearly 3,000 weapons have been collected, to which must be added some 1,800 weapons recovered from gendarmerie stations and nearly 3,000 kg of ammunition. Building on this positive outcome after more than 10 years of operation, the Canton has decided to repeat the operation in 2024.
As part of this operation, the Civil and Military Security Service (SSCM), like last year, is organizing four additional half-days in the canton: Saturday November 9 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Aigle; Saturday November 9 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Payerne; Saturday November 16, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Yverdon-les-Bains; Saturday November 16, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Nyon.
It is also possible to drop off a weapon at any time at the Morges Arsenal, whose hours remain unchanged Monday and Wednesday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., with continuous opening every Tuesday (excluding school holidays) from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. This approach is also possible at the cantonal gendarmerie stations. The authorities in charge of security therefore encourage each holder to return weapons and ammunition that they consider unnecessary to keep at home.
