- The voucher must be used once in partner stores.
- Bicycle driving lessons will also be offered to beneficiaries.
The City of Lausanne is launching a unique initiative to encourage 14-year-olds to travel sustainably while supporting the purchasing power of families. All Lausanne teenagers aged 14 (born in 2010 for this year, i.e. around 1,250 people) will receive a voucher of 300 francs for the purchase of a non-electric bike. This financial boost, announced by Emilie Moeschler, municipal councilor responsible for Sports and Social Cohesion, aims to facilitate access to an ecological means of transport. “At this age, we can consider purchasing an adult bike that can be used for a long time, but it is often an expensive purchase,” she adds. This aid is there for that, to support families, encourage sustainable travel and promote access to leisure activities.”
The first to benefit from this measure will be young people born in 2010, who will receive an information letter between November 2024 and January 2025. They will be able to collect their voucher in person at the Municipal Aid counter, place Chauderon 7, on Wednesday afternoon . Subsequently, each young Lausanne resident will receive this voucher the month following their 14e birthday. The registered voucher is valid until the day before the beneficiary turns 16.
To use this voucher, valid for new or used bicycles, young people will have to go to one of the twelve partner stores. Scooters and other vehicles are excluded from the offer. The list of participating brands can be consulted on www.lausanne.ch/velo14. Please note that the voucher must be used once, and that bicycle driving lessons will be offered.
This measure complements the mobility support systems already in place in Lausanne and implements several commitments from the legislative program such as strengthening the purchasing power of families and promoting sustainable modes of travel.
