In a sluggish market (-11%), the result for electric cars is even worse, with a decline of 18%. Tesla is particularly suffering.

The automobile market continues to sink into crisis. In October, 135,529 new cars were registered in , a drop of 11% compared to October 2023. As a reminder, in September, the decline was 11% and in August, it was down to – 24%.

The results are really not good for electrics. Last month, only 20,899 models with this type of engine were registered, a drop of 18%. The electric market share is declining, with 15.4% last month, compared to 16.7% in October 2023.

This confirms a downward trend since July. The boost from social leasing, which had maintained sales in the first half, is gradually fading. For the January/October total, there are 237,736 registrations of electric models, an increase of only 3.3% in one year.

If the end of the year is not better, the 2024 balance sheet for electric vehicles could be in the red! However, we can hope for a recovery with the arrival of new models, such as the C3 and R5, and above all a revival of activity before the reduction in the bonus. Brands are already alerting customers in their advertisements, in order to encourage them to buy in November and December.

Coming back to October’s results, it is once again the Citroën ë-C3 which is in the lead, although with a less explosive score than in September. 1,712 copies were registered, compared to 3,626 in September. The chevron brand had tried to deliver as many models as possible under social leasing before September 30 (end date for receiving aid). She finished at the beginning of October.

In 2nd place in October, we have the Renault Scénic, which seems to be taking off, with a nice score of 1,675 registrations. Renault’s results are also supported by R5 registrations, but the large majority concern garage examples, for customer testing. The Peugeot e-208 completes the podium, with 1,239 units registered.

The Tesla Model Y is “only” 4th, with 1,185 sales. Tesla is really in trouble, its balance sheet having fallen by 46% in one year. To sell off stocks, the manufacturer has put in place a promotion.
