Spanish police arrested 20 people last night for looting in Valencia, the EFE news agency reported on Sunday. Most targeted stores, two individuals looted a house and one stole gasoline.

More than 80 people had already been arrested previously for looting.

King Felipe VI on site

King Felipe VI of Spain and his wife, Queen Letizia, arrived early Sunday afternoon in Paiporta, near Valencia, one of the cities most bereaved by the tragic floods which ravaged the south this week -east of the country, according to images from national television (TVE).

Accompanied by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the sovereigns must then go to Chiva, another city near Valencia hard hit by this tragedy, which has already left at least 214 dead.

Cleaning up the mess

In many areas of the Valencia region, clean-up of the damage is still underway or has not yet started. Rain is also expected on Sunday and code orange has been declared for some areas of the coast.

The “dana”, an isolated high altitude depression which causes sudden and violent rains, has so far left 214 dead, including more than 200 in the Valencia region, and an unknown number of missing. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez announced on Saturday the number of 1,900 people wanted after torrents of mud rushed through the streets, houses and other shopping centers, trapping the population since Tuesday evening.
