Saturday November 2, 2024, a fire broke out in a residential house at a place called Les Chauvraies in Bailleul (), a town located halfway between La Flèche and Sablé-sur-Sarthe, not far from the A11 motorway.

It was a neighbor, an 85-year-old man, who alerted the firefighters when he realized that the fire had started in the house of a young couple who had lived there for five years.

The dog escaped unharmed from the burning house

Arriving on site around 12:30 a.m., Éric David, the mayor of Bailleul, could only see the damage caused by the fire. No less than eight fire engines and 25 firefighters were mobilized (1) to put out this fire which completely destroyed the house. Finally, the owner couple's dog was saved thanks to the intervention of friends who arrived on site before the firefighters arrived. Taken to the veterinarian, she escaped the flames.

Support from the town hall

Present on site, the family of the young couple offered a rehousing solution. “ We don't have a lot of vacant housing in the town at the moment, we are going to help them, assures the mayor, marked by this dramatic event. We will also support them with everything concerning the administrative part. I will also thank the couple's neighbor who served coffee to the firefighters most of the night. »

As to the causes of the fire, the circumstances remain unclear. Gas or wood heating are not the cause. According to initial findings, it could be a fire coming from an electrical circuit.
