Around 4:30 p.m. Friday, November 1, residents of the Polygone district of Valence heard gunshots in the middle of the street. They discovered at the foot of a building, the lifeless body of a young man, whom emergency services were unable to resuscitate.. The judicial police went to the site to carry out the investigation, but immediately the trail of a new settling of scores against a backdrop of drug trafficking emerged. The young person was known to the police, as was the site, identified as one of the main drug dealing points in the city.
In the evening, the prefect of Drôme Thierry Devimeux and the mayor (LR) of Valence, Nicolas Daragon, went to the site alongside the CRS 83 who came to restore and maintain order. A mayor of Valencia who is also Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, responsible for everyday security. It was first of all in the exercise of this function that he wanted to express himself: “We are in Valence, as recently in Poitiers, in Rennes or even in Saint-Péray, in a tipping point, towards systematic ultraviolence” underlines the Minister Delegate.
“On faces big banditry” echoes Nicolas Daragon, “and faced with this, we need a general mobilization to tackle the entire ecosystem, from the consumer to the network heads, including the little hands, the dealers, the lookouts, we have to strike hard!” a national cause insists the person in charge of daily security, who indicates that “massive measures and a change of direction with the establishment of specialized teams will be announced soon”, without giving further details.
But Nicolas Daragon wants to make it known, he also came on site with his Valencia mayor's hat, to express “its total support for the residents of the neighborhood, who are the first victims of this national climate“The CRS 83 company also came to the site to reinforce the national and municipal police, and it will be deployed in the neighborhood all weekend.”to reassure residents“. The presence for 15 minutes of the mayor of the city and the prefect of the department was also a way of reminding us that this neighborhood is not a lawless zone, and that the representatives of the Republic have their place there.
At the same time, the mayor recalls that the Polygone district is “a neighborhood in which the city is investing heavily.” He mentions investments to renovate homes, to improve the living environment, access to health, to education, and even to develop the various municipal public services. So according to him, there is no question of evoking a context of isolation and even less of abandonment of sensitive neighborhoods, “the subject is drug trafficking and banditry, nothing else“.
