Marrakech – The interconnection between investment in health and economic development was at the center of a panel organized on Friday in Marrakech, as part of the 5th edition of the Choiseul Africa Business Forum.

Held under the theme “Strengthening health systems and boosting their economic benefits”, this panel was an opportunity to highlight the significant developments experienced by the health sector in Africa in recent years, stimulated by a growing demand for health services.

In this sense, the panelists indicated that despite the persistent challenges in terms of infrastructure, care of vulnerable populations and human capital, the health sector is now seen as an area rich in investment opportunities and a catalyst for economic growth.

To this end, they stressed the need to promote public-private partnership and strengthen the exchange of health data in order to meet the needs of the African continent and, therefore, better understand the issues of collective health and epidemics. .

Speakers also emphasized the imperative of fostering seamless interactions between the public and private sectors, noting the importance of encouraging private sector actors to invest in this area.

They also emphasized the importance of strengthening the training of health professionals, also recommending improving the quality of data and strengthening access to data in isolated regions.

Investment in digital solutions is also essential, which involves strengthening the offer of telemedicine and teleconsultation services for patients unable to travel.

Investing in health does not only represent an act of compassion or a moral commitment, they continued, but constitutes an essential lever for the economic development of any country.

“A healthy population is more productive, which directly contributes to economic prosperity,” they noted.

Organized by Choiseul Africa, this edition, placed under the theme “Co-building winning and sustainable strategies: driving role of the private sector and cooperation with the public sector”, brings together high-level decision-makers from Africa, Europe and the Gulf around economic development and investment opportunities in Africa.
