The Ministry of Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Congo will hold a press conference on November 4, during African Energy Week (AEW), to announce the official launch of the Congo Energy & Investment Forum (CIEF), scheduled for March 25 and 26 2025 in Brazzaville. This event aims to position the Republic of Congo as a major energy player in Africa and attract substantial investments to accelerate the development of its energy sector.

Led by Hydrocarbons Minister Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua, Congo aspires to increase its oil production, with a target of 280,000 barrels per day by the end of 2024, thereby consolidating its position as the fourth largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa . The CIEF will provide a unique platform to explore new projects and partnerships that reinforce this growth and bring Congo closer to major oil producers like Nigeria and Angola.

The Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC), under the leadership of Maixent Raoul Ominga, is leading key projects in the hydrocarbon sector, notably the Mengo Kundji Bindi II permit, which could contain 2.5 billion barrels. The development of wells, 3D seismic studies and the establishment of production platforms are all initiatives to stimulate the country’s energy potential.

The forum, organized by Energy Capital & Power and supported by the African Energy Chamber, will bring together government stakeholders, investors and experts to address investment opportunities in Congo’s onshore and offshore projects. On the sidelines of the AEW, the ministry will also unveil an ambitious plan for natural gas, including reforms to encourage small-scale gas projects and attract new investments through tax incentives.

The Republic of Congo has more than 10 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves and began exporting LNG in February 2024 with Eni’s Tango FLNG facility, with a second unit planned by the end of 2025. By increasing its production capacity to 3 million tonnes of LNG per year by 2025, Congo confirms its ambition to become a key player in the energy economy in Africa.

The launch of the CEIF during the AEW is a strong signal for investors: Congo is ready to welcome partnerships that will strengthen its energy sector and accelerate its economic development.
