The city of Fez is preparing to host its first Spiritual Marathon scheduled for February 15 and 16, 2025 with the objective of welcoming more than 10,000 runners, including more than 500 from abroad.
The official announcement of this event, carried by the “Dila Athlétique” association under the aegis of the wilaya of Fez-Meknes and which promises to place the spiritual capital of Morocco on the world map of marathons, was made during a press conference Thursday in Fez, revealing the ambitions and details of this event.
Born from the desire of a group of Fassi athletes, recognized for their performances at the national and international level, the Spiritual Marathon aims to become an unmissable event for running enthusiasts.
Speaking during this press conference which marks the start of preparations for this marathon, Abderrahime Bouramdane, director and founder of the event, testified to the enthusiasm generated by the project.
“As soon as the organization of the marathon was announced, we received more than 50 registrations from all over the world,” he said.
Bouramdane insisted on the importance given to all participants, whether they are experienced runners or amateurs wishing to surpass themselves.
He also underlined the role of the Spiritual Marathon in the international influence of Fez, and the economic and cultural dynamics that it is likely to generate.
The organizers have taken particular care in designing the courses. Whether for the 10 km, the half-marathon (21.98 km) or the marathon (42.195 km), the routes have been designed to offer a unique experience in the heart of Fez.
“The runners will have the privilege of crossing emblematic places of the city, thus discovering the richness of its historical and cultural heritage,” said Bouramdane.
In a statement to MAP, Yassine Maalal, communications, marketing and sponsorship manager for the marathon, and also one of the founders of the “running Fez Road Runners” community, detailed the marketing strategy put in place.
“We opted for a 360° approach based on social networks, targeting both the inhabitants of Fez, Moroccans and international runners,” he explained.
For him, the Spiritual Marathon is much more than a race, it is a celebration that brings the community together around the values of sharing, surpassing oneself and love for the city of Fez.
Aware of environmental issues, the organizers have included a specific section dedicated to environmental protection and water management.
Furthermore, to create a festive atmosphere and encourage participants, more than 20 folk groups will be mobilized along the route, offering a special atmosphere to runners and spectators.
