The Ouaouzguite Carpet Festival exhibits the work of 22,000 weavers in Taznakht

The Ouaouzguite Carpet Festival is a major event for the Taznakht region and well beyond. Its impact is measured in particular through a significant participation of more than 150 exhibitors, as well as a representation of local know-how, which highlights the work of nearly 22,000 weavers of the region, highlighting the importance of this sector for the local economy.

A strong attendance will mark this edition, with more than 50,000 expected visitorsor more than 20% compared to the previous edition, generating income important for exhibitors.

Ce festival also hosted a cultural carnival which showcased the stages of manufacturing the Ouaouzguite rug. The ministerial delegation was able to watch live demonstrations of the entire process, from sheep shearing to weaving final stage of the carpet, through washing and purifying the wool, dyeing, spinning, cutting the thread, and finally weaving the carpet.

The Taznakht Carpet at the heart of the Ministerial Visit program

The region benefits from a infrastructure ecosystem dedicated to crafts, especially Taznakht carpets. On the sidelines of the Festival, Fatima-Zahra Ammor et Lahcen Essaadi carried out a series of visits who highlighted the remarkable work of artisans et weavers of the region.

  • The artisanal complex of Ouarzazate : The delegation visited the workshops, exchanged with the artisans, and presented diplomas to the winners of the Institute of Traditional Arts of Ouarzazate.
  • The Taznakht Crafting Set : A site that supports artisans and cooperatives in the fields of Ouaouzguite rugjewelry, sewing and dyeing.
  • Dar Zarbia : A space which traces the history of Taznakht carpet and exhibits a remarkable collection of rugs, some of which are over 100 years old.
  • The local spinning center in Taznakht : A 44 million dirhams project, currently 60% completed, which aims to support weavers throughout the value chain, including a spinning unit for the siroua woolthe best for weaving Taznakht carpet.
