A day worthy of the end of summer.

Historic day

This Thursday, October 31, 2024, will make history in several municipalities in Quebec. A mass of hot air causes the mercury to rise as if it were a late summer day. Records were broken on Wednesday and Thursday. At the time of writing, Gatineau, Montreal, Sherbrooke and Quebec City recorded a record maximum. A hot spot to mention: the mercury reached 26°C in Saint-Clotilde, in Montérégie.

Hauts minimums

Temperatures are not expected to drop significantly until late Friday. Other records could be broken overnight. A brand more than 80 years old risks being beaten in Montreal. A minimum of 12.2°C was recorded in 1942. In southern Quebec, particularly for the metropolis, Montérégie, Estrie up to Quebec, the minimum should remain above the threshold of 15°C the next night.

Change of diet

The weekend risks giving rise to a strong temperature contrast. A mass of cold air will enter Quebec to cause the mercury to drop. The change would not be too significant for Friday in the south of the province while a maximum of 17°C is anticipated for Montreal. However, the northwest sectors would be the first to feel the effects of the cold. The mercury is expected to approach freezing point.
