Only a few more hours of waiting for Jayson Tatum and the Celtics. On the night of Tuesday and Wednesday, he and his teammates will receive their championship rings and raise the banner atop TD Garden. The champion ceremony is a tradition in the NBA, known to everyone, but that only some live on the right side.

“I’ve seen ceremonies for so many years, I’ve seen so many teams raise the banner, get the ring and I wanted to be one of them one day,” confirms Jayson Tatum to Andscape. “I haven’t seen the ring yet, it will be a surprise for everyone […] This moment will be unique, a moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life. You always remember your first ring, when you have to put it on your finger. That’s what all my favorite players did. »

“I know that with this title, I am sitting at this table”

For the winger, this title against the Mavericks was a relief. After seasons where he didn’t get far, finally, he climbed the mountain. And can now claim to have marked the history of the Celtics in the same way as the great elders.

“I am part of history. We saw when Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and the others came back, the pride they had because they wrote their name in history. You feel the energy when they are there, they are aware of what they have done and that is what we want to do. I know that with this title I am sitting at this table”, believes Jayson Tatum.

Especially since this trophy, like the one in 2008 won by Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and the others, was eagerly awaited. In 2008, it put an end to 22 years of waiting, and that of 2024 to 16 years of patience.

“To be part of Celtics history, you have to win the title. We are at 18 now. The best players won the championship. We are subject to the strictest standards. You have to win at least one. It feels good and I’m happy about it”he concludes.
