This Wednesday, the Competition Commission (Comco) received a complaint inviting it to investigate the market for bread cereals and baker’s flour. A concentrated market which would favor the “abusive behavior” of a handful of dominant players, such as Migros and Coop, as well as large processing companies, to the detriment of farmers and SME millers. This denunciation comes from the German-speaking association Marchés Equitables Suisse (MES), which made it known in a press release. This association was founded last summer by people from the economy, agriculture, environment, animal protection and law.

Comco will examine this denunciation, like all others, as part of a preliminary investigation. “In the presence of strong indications of a violation of cartel law”, it can then formally open an investigation and impose sanctions. Its competence includes in particular the fight against harmful cartels and abuse of dominant position.
