“The American future looks democratic.” This would be the case if Switzerland were to decide. Indeed, Kamala Harris enjoys significant support there, even within the right, according to a recent poll by the Zurich research institute Sotomo. Even voters of the Liberal-Radical Party (PLR) would mostly prefer to vote for the Democratic candidate rather than for her Republican opponent, Donald Trump. The latter also does not obtain a majority within the base of the UDC. He only received 40% of the votes among these voters, with 29% preferring to abstain from any vote.

According to the survey, in total, 73% of those questioned would give their vote to the Democratic vice-president, while only 13% would support Donald Trump. This support extends widely even in conservative circles, with 78% of PLR supporters saying they would vote for Kamala Harris if they had the chance. This strong support is visible across all generations.

The outcome of the US elections is currently still completely open: In current election polls, the two candidates are almost neck and neck. This also causes uncertainty among the Swiss: When it comes to who will actually win the elections, the answers of those surveyed are somewhat different. Thus, 55% of respondents think that victory will go to Harris, compared to only 21% for Trump. The rest say they are undecided on who will win the White House seat.
