the famous e-reader finally goes color

Amazon unveils a new generation of Kindle e-reader. For the first time, the e-reader switches to color.

Since its infancy, Amazon has been and remains the champion of book distribution in the world. The giant has also successfully transitioned to the digital format with its range of electronic ink e-readers, the Kindle.

In 2024, Amazon is finally moving up a gear with the Kindle Colorsoft, its first e-reader with a screen capable of displaying colors. If this is a first for Amazon, this is not the case for its competitors which have been offering color for many months already.

No switch to Oled or LCD here, Amazon continues to use technology based on e-ink. The new 7-inch Colorsoft panel uses nitride LEDs to display colors while maintaining Kindle levels of contrast and brightness.

Don’t expect a classic screen though, we’re talking about displaying 150 pixels per inch in color and Amazon makes no promises about the colorimetric coverage of its screen.

A new library

With the arrival of color, a whole new collection opens up to Kindle users: tourist guides, graphic novels, but also and of course comic books.

The strong point of this type of e-reader obviously remains autonomy. Amazon promises a battery capable of lasting up to 8 weeks offline. Charging is done via USB-C at 9W for 2.5 hours.

IPX8 water resistance allows you to imagine using it by the pool without taking any risks.

The price of a tablet

We are far from the days of inexpensive Kindles. The Amazon Kindle Colorsoft is available from 299 euros for launch on October 30, 2024.

The e-reader is already available for pre-order for the 32 GB version on Amazon.fr.
