(Keystone-ATS) The two revisions to lease law up for vote on November 24 would have “dramatic consequences” for tenants, an alliance led by Asloca denounced on Tuesday. Landlords want to be able to terminate the lease more easily to rent more expensively.

Tenants are already facing ever-increasing rents and a housing shortage. However, the two revisions approved by Parliament represent an additional attack, a left-wing alliance criticized Tuesday before the media in Bern.

The first object submitted to a vote aims to prevent abusive subletting. The second aims to simplify lease terminations for owners’ own needs.

The two objects are part of a “perfidious strategy of the real estate lobby” aimed at facilitating the termination of leases to increase rents, according to Carlo Sommaruga, president of the Tenants Association (Asloca). The alliance brings together associations defending the rights of consumers, retirees, students as well as the PS and the Greens.
