Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman is set to experience varied weather conditions as low clouds and fog are anticipated to develop over parts of the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
Aerial imagery indicates significant cloud cover over the Musandam and North Batinah Governorates, where scattered rain showers are likely. The Al Hajar Mountains are also expected to see cloud formation, with potential thundery rain in the region.
Oman MET predicts that rain clouds may soon flow towards the Sultanate’s coasts, influenced by two developing weather conditions that are beginning to impact the region’s climate.
The National Centre for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards has detected a tropical depression southeast of the Arabian Sea, currently centred at longitude 66.5 east and latitude 16 north, approximately 1,200 km from the coast of Dhofar governorate. There is a possibility that this system could develop into a deep tropical depression in the near future.
Initial forecasts suggest that the tropical condition will move westward, potentially affecting the coasts of Dhofar Governorate and the Gulf of Aden. As this tropical depression approaches, it is likely to coincide with a trough of low pressure affecting the northern governorates. This will lead to varying intensities of rainfall in Muscat, South Batinah, Dakhiliyah, and North Sharqiyah governorates.
Residents are advised to stay informed about the evolving weather situation and heed any warnings issued by local authorities.
