On the night of Saturday October 5 to Sunday October 6, 2024, a particularly violent scene took place in the historic center of Rennes. Rue de la Soif (officially rue Saint-Michel), a man was seriously injured by gunshot.

Around 3:45 a.m., two men in helmets and on a scooter pursued the victim in this street before shooting him, according to video surveillance images, said a police source.

The vital prognosis involved

Hit in the abdomen, the injured person then took refuge in the backyard of a nearby kebab shop, whose manager was responsible for calling for help.

The victim was transported to hospital in serious condition.absolute emergency and his vital prognosis is in jeopardy.

Settling of scores between drug traffickers

At the end of the morning, Nathalie Appéré, mayor of Rennes, spoke. In her press release, she reveals that the “assassination attempt” which took place is “according to the first elements, linked to the turf war between drug traffickers at Gros-Chêne.

As a reminder, on Monday September 30, shots rang out at Place du Gros-Chêne in the Maurepas district, causing one person to be injured.

A week earlier, a few meters away, residents had been awakened by a shooting and several bullet holes were visible on the doors of the buildings.

In August, on the 5th, similar events took place in this same neighborhood. Then on the night of the 6th to the 7th, in Maurepas and Cleunay.

The increase in police numbers

“I am in contact with the prosecutor and the prefectural and police authorities. While waiting for the investigative work to produce results, I again requested a reinforced police presence on the ground,” declared the mayor of Rennes.

This escalation of violence is particularly worrying.

She also invites the new Prefect, whose appointment is still awaited, to make “the increase in police numbers to guarantee public safety in our city, in connection with the determined fight against drug trafficking”, a “priority.
