– A singer and a municipal councilor killed in the southwest
Colombia is currently in the grip of unrest. A total of five people were murdered on Friday and Saturday in the southwest of the country.

Five people, including a singer and a city councilor, were murdered in two separate cases on Friday and Saturday in Colombia’s troubled southwest, local authorities said.
On Saturday afternoon, municipal councilor Jhon Fredy Gil was shot dead in Jamundí in the Valle del Cauca department. According to local media, the politician was left-wing, a member of the MAIS indigenous party and was in a restaurant when he was shot. “This is a cowardly act which undermines democracy and our institutions,” reacted the town hall on the social network X.
Popular music singer Sebastián Muñoz was killed along with three other people in a shooting in Corinto, Miller Hurtado, security secretary of the Cauca department, told Caracol Televisión. The authorities have opened an investigation.
Regular fighting in the region
According to an Instagram post from his team, the artist was in a rental venue to give a private concert.
Cauca and Valle del Cauca are among the most troubled regions of the country, still mired in armed conflict despite an agreement reached in 2016 with the Marxist FARC guerrillas.
