The Israeli operations, which have caused a humanitarian and health catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, have left 40,988 dead there, according to the latest report published Monday, September 9 by the Ministry of Health of the Hamas government. According to the United Nations, the majority of victims are women and children.

Israel has vowed to destroy the Palestinian Islamist movement after its unprecedented October 7, 2023 attack in southern Israel that killed 1,205 people, mostly civilians, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) tally based on official Israeli data. Of the 251 people abducted that day, 97 are still being held in Gaza, 33 of whom have been declared dead by the army.

The Israeli army continues its offensive in the northern Gaza Strip without respite

The Israeli army on Monday ordered the evacuation of several areas in the northwest of the Gaza Strip. A map calling for the evacuation of different neighborhoods “considered dangerous combat zones” was posted on the social network X by an Israeli army spokesman, Avichay Adraee. “Terrorist organizations are once again firing rockets at the State of Israel and committing terrorist acts from this area”he said in Arabic. The Israeli army had announced at the beginning of January that it had “completed the dismantling of the military structure” Hamas in the north, before launching its ground operations in the center and south of the Palestinian territory.

Earlier today, the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, another Palestinian group in Gaza, claimed responsibility for rocket attacks on Israel, particularly on the city of Ashkelon. No connection has been made so far between the rocket attacks and the evacuation order.

The Israeli military has issued evacuation orders in preparation for military operations in the Gaza Strip several times since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. Almost the entire population of Gaza has been displaced at least once in nearly a year of war. Tens of thousands of people leave their homes or makeshift shelters with each evacuation, taking their belongings with them, sometimes without knowing where to go.

In the West Bank, Israeli operations are worsening a “calamitous” situation according to the UN

Before the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, denounced the escalation of violence in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967. “In the West Bank, deadly and destructive operations, some of them on a scale unmatched in the last two decades, are worsening a calamitous situation already exacerbated by deadly settler violence.”he said in his general speech.

Israel has stepped up large-scale military operations in the West Bank in recent weeks, where violence has flared since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 662 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, while at least 23 Israelis, including soldiers and police officers, have died in Palestinian attacks or during military operations, according to official Israeli data. On Sunday, three Israeli security guards were killed by a truck driver who opened fire at the Israeli-controlled crossing between the West Bank and Jordan, according to the Israeli army.

Mr. Türk also stressed that “nearly 10,000 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons or ad hoc military installations”specifying that the actual number should be “probably higher”. ” A lot “ of these people are detained arbitrarily“and more than 50 people died” due to inhumane conditions and mistreatment, he stressed. “Ending this war and avoiding a full-scale regional conflict is an absolute and urgent priority”also supported the High Commissioner.

In Syria, eighteen dead in Israeli strikes on military sites, according to Damascus

At least eighteen people were killed on Monday in a series of “Israeli strikes” at military sites in central Syria, according to Syrian authorities. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) – based in the United Kingdom, but which has a vast network of sources in the war-torn country – reported 26 deaths.

The director of the OSDH, Rami Abdel Rahmane, stressed that this was “one of the most violent raids” carried out by the Israeli air force on Syria. He specified that the strikes had targeted “The scientific research center of Mesyaf and surrounding sites”According to him, this center in which Iranian experts work “develops weapons, including precision missiles and drones”Asked by AFP in Jerusalem, the Israeli army indicated “not to comment on information from foreign media”.

Since the start of the civil war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes targeting President Bashar al-Assad’s army and pro-Iranian groups that support him. Israeli raids in Syria have intensified after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, triggered by the Palestinian movement’s attack on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023. In a statement, the Syrian Foreign Ministry strongly denounced the strikes, which it attributed to Israel, accusing it of trying “to provoke further escalation in the region”In Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani condemned the “criminal attack” which he blamed on Israel.
