Roland Lescure will not grant “automatic confidence” to the Barnier government

The resigning Minister for Industry and Energy has established a certain number of “red lines”, particularly on immigration.

Forced to deal with a prime minister from the Republicans, Macron’s party is still trying to find the right word to define the new link that unites it with Michel Barnier. “Demanding coexistence” for Emmanuel Macron, simple «coalition» for Sylvain Maillard, and now «majopposition» for Roland Lescure: the formulas have been flourishing since the appointment of the head of the LR government last Thursday.

“In a constructive logic, without signing a blank check”the resigning Minister of Industry and Energy, Roland Lescure, indicated that he would not automatically give his confidence to the Barnier government. “My trust will not be automatic. I am clear on my red lines”he said in an interview with Release this Monday.

“I will be vigilant”

Red lines that primarily focus on immigration. “When I hear Michel Barnier talking, during the LR primary in 2021, about a “moratorium” on immigration or the elimination of State Medical Aid (AME), I respond: “Let’s preserve economic immigration, let’s preserve AME”explained this figure of the left wing of Macronie. And to warn: “I will be vigilant to ensure that we do not succumb to purchases from the RN program (…) If we have to go and pick from the RN program, it will be without me.”

Re-elected as a deputy, Roland Lescure is now vice-president of the National Assembly. “This is an important position that will help build bridges between Republicans on both sides.”he assures.
