Calogero reveals how Jean-Jacques Goldman helped him get out of a “slightly complicated” period

Calogero was walking alone when Jean-Jacques Goldman came to lend him a hand. The 53-year-old musician revealed how his mentor got him out of a “slightly complicated” period.

Invited to the show “Le monde d’Élodie” on France Inter this Wednesday, August 28, Calogero returned to the creation of his fifth studio album The Beautificationreleased in 2009, which took place while the bassist was going through a difficult period.

“It’s an album where I’m coming out of a somewhat complicated period,” he began before adding: “Typically, I called it The Beautificationwhile it wasn’t at all the improvement in my head, but it was a force of persuasion. I wanted to convince myself of it and it brought me the improvement, finally.

The singer now admits that he appreciates this album over time, especially because Jean-Jacques Goldman offered his help to finish it. Calogero confides that the singer of the title Fly me away allowed him to finalize the piece It is said which he considers to be the “locomotive of the album”.

Valuable help

Calogero explained that they began exchanging emails and that’s when the 72-year-old singer told him that something important was missing from his song.

“I remember that forIt is saidmy theme was a bit sophisticated, a bit particular and Jean-Jacques Goldman asked me: “But Calo, where is the hook?”, and I didn’t know anything about it so he answered me: “Well I’ll look for the hook and we’ll find it.” And finally it became: “We are only rich with our friends, that’s said”, he recounted.

In an interview last year forParis MatchCalogero had shown admiration for Jean-Jacques Goldman and the way in which he had disappeared from the public sphere.

“I admire those who managed to leave while they were at the top, like Jean-Jacques Goldman,” he confided. The musician also said he hoped one day for the star’s return.
