The iconic Swedish pop group’s record label says it has not received any requests to use the songs. Several artists including Celine Dion and the Rolling Stones have also asked the Republican candidate not to use their songs.

The record label of iconic Swedish pop group ABBA announced on Thursday, August 29, that it has asked Donald Trump to stop using its hits during his campaign for the US presidency. Universal Music in Sweden says it has spotted several of the group’s songs being played at least once during the former Republican ’s campaign events.

“We asked that (these pieces) be removed”Universal Music AB said in an email to AFP. “Universal Music Publishing AB and (record company) Polar Music International AB have not received any requests (for use of these titles), so no permission or license has been given to Trump.”the group adds.

The Swedish Daily The Swedish Daily reports that one of its journalists attended a Donald Trump rally in Minnesota, home to a large Swedish community, in July, during which one of ABBA’s hits was played. «The Winner Takes it All». An old ten-minute video clip of the group was projected on a giant screen showing ABBA performing some of their greatest hits, including «Money, Money, Money» et «Dancing Queen».

The Swedish group of Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid – their initials forming the name ABBA – embodied disco until 1982 when they called it quits. Other musical celebrities such as Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Celine Dion and the Rolling Stones, asked the Republican candidate to stop playing their songs during the campaign.
