SOS Racisme calls for “a firm response”. Before the grand finale of season 12 of “Star Academy”, Saturday evening on TF1, SOS Racisme, deploring the hateful attacks (racism, misogyny) of which one of the two finalists, Ebony, is the victim on social networks, decided to take action. The association announced that it had filed a complaint and reported the racist attacks to the Public Prosecutor of the Paris Judicial Court.
“A reactionary vision of society”
Candidate for the “Star Academy”, Ebony Cham is the target of a wave of racist and sexist hatred on social networks, notes SOS Racisme in its press release published Wednesday. A young black woman, originally from Guadeloupe and Martinique, she is affected by oppressions at the root of which skin color and gender are intertwined. »
The association continues its text by indicating that these attacks come from people “who use every opportunity to promote a racialized, exclusionary and deeply reactionary vision of society”. And decided to support the finalist of the twelfth season of “Star Academy” by appealing to justice.
-SOS Racisme calls for “a firm response”
“SOS Racisme calls for a firm and exemplary response to these hateful and racist remarks, in particular from the justice system,” indicates the association’s press release. We reaffirm that the fight against online racism requires collective mobilization: from public authorities, digital platforms, but also from each citizen. SOS Racisme also invites TF1, as broadcaster of the “Star Academy”, to take concrete measures to prevent and sanction this behavior. SOS Racisme reported these racist attacks to the Public Prosecutor of the Paris Judicial Court and reiterates its full support for Ebony. »
On December 23, TF1 published a press release to denounce the messages of hatred and remind that “the attacks against these young artists […] are inadmissible and punishable by law. But the surge of hatred continues against the daughter of Thierry Cham, the famous zouk singer, on social networks. An online petition was even launched to support the finalist of the headline show, a petition which has more than 5,100 signatures to date.
