TikTok users in the United States will have to find an alternative. The Supreme Court in fact rejected the appeal filed by the social network after a law was passed in Congress. This asked TikTok to distance itself from its parent company, the Chinese company ByteDance, or otherwise be banned on American soil.

This Friday, January 17, the Supreme Court decided to dismiss TikTok and confirm the decision to ban the social network in the United States. A measure which will take effect from this Sunday. This while the network is used by 170 million users in the country.

Motivated by national security concerns, American authorities imposed a deadline on TikTok in order to cut its ties with Chinese tech giant ByteDance. The other condition being to sell its American activities to an American group. which was not done. In addition, the United States accuses the social network of obeying Chinese laws. These require technologist companies to contribute to the collection of intelligence. If necessary, Chinese authorities would be in possession of American user data.
