“We must stop with public service-bashing”

On the one hand, the satisfaction addressed by the Court of Auditors to the company with seven antennas and four musical groups, as well as the revelation of a new wave of flattering audiences for its stations. On the other, the probability for public broadcasting to return to a legislative process with a view to achieving the reform of its governance – a project which has already failed to materialize three times. Also, savings measures are to be expected: while the year has barely started, Radio France already knows that 8.5 million euros will be missing compared to 2024. At a time when the radio group is celebrating its 50the anniversary, Sibyle Veil, its president, calls for protection.

“The reform of public broadcasting must be completed,” declared Prime Minister François Bayrou. Are you still in favor of a holding company, but opposed to a merger?

Over the last twelve months, we have seen a merger project, a holding company, and the defense of privatization by the National Rally. We do not know at this stage what reform this government will carry out. I would like us to return to a positive discourse about our public service.
