Legendary Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars is currently working on his second solo album and promises it will be an evolution from his debut, The Other Side Of Mars. In a recent interview with Tone-Talk, Mars explained that the upcoming album, which he’s collaborating on with engineer and producer Chris Collier, will represent a real step up.

“A higher level” for Mick Mars

Mars described the new album as a step forward from his previous opus. “This record that Chris and I are working on now is a level above, it’s a step up — the next level.”he said. He added that he seeks to take his fans with him in this musical evolution: “It’s like a journey. You sit down, you listen to the record, and it takes you somewhere else.”

The album The Other Side Of Mars, released last February, marked a new era for Mars as a solo artist. He felt freed from the musical constraints he had encountered within Mötley Crüe, allowing him to express himself more freely and try his hand at a variety of genres.

A diversity of styles and a different approach

Mars also spoke about the diversity of styles present in The Other Side Of Mars. In a previous interview with The Rocker Morning Show, he said: “I think being alone doesn’t set any limits for me. I can take my music wherever I want.” The guitarist explores different facets of his creativity, ranging from rock to blues, including more surprising influences such as classical music.

Regarding the process of creating this album, Mars revealed that it took him about four years to finalize it. Some of the ideas had been around for a while, but he wanted to take the time necessary to get the result he wanted: “I didn’t want to sound like an old rocker still playing 80s music. I had to come up with something different, something people wouldn’t expect to hear from me.”
