This Sunday evening in Los Angeles, Will Smith literally set the BET Awards stage on fire with his new single “You Can Make It”.

Will Smith is back on the scene. On the occasion of the Bet Awards 2024, a ceremony rewarding African-American or minority personalities, which took place this Sunday evening, the actor reconnected with his first love: music.

Nearly twenty years after the release of his last album, “Lost and Found”, he performed on stage his new single called “You Can Make It” (“You can do it” in French). “I don’t know who needs to hear this, but whatever’s going on in your life, I’m here to tell you that ‘You Can Make It,'” he said before starting to sing .

“The darker the hell you must endure, the brighter the heaven you will enjoy. The more serious the fall, the higher you will rise,” say the lyrics, which refer to the ordeals that Will Smith had to go through after the 94th Academy Awards, in 2022, during which he slapped comedian Chris Rock. A gesture for which he apologized, but which still earned him a heavy sanction, namely the ban from participating in any Oscar ceremony for ten years.

During his show, the 55-year-old artist was notably joined by the Gospel group Sunday Service Choir, created by Kanye West, and his fiery performance clearly won over the audience. Currently starring in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die”, Will Smith has not confirmed anything at the moment, but we can imagine that the release of this track announces the arrival of a new album.

For the record, as a rapper, Will Smith has won four Grammy Awards: Best Rap Performance for “Parents Just Don’t Understand” in 1989, Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Summertime” in 1992, Best Rap Solo Performance for “Men in Black” in 1998, and for “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It” in 1999.
