In a long interview with the media Complexthe 27-year-old singer looks back on this mega hit that she remains associated with despite herself. “I obviously appreciate that the title was so successful, but it implies that the public is attached to you for this specific reason (…) I was in a very publicized relationship and as a woman, I don’t want this relationship story to define my new identity,” she confides.
The first rumors surrounding the Camila Cabello-Shawn Mendes couple began to swirl in July 2019, just a month after the release of their duet. Two years later, the two singers announced their separation via a joint statement. They gave each other another chance in 2023, before breaking up again after a few months.
“I’ll always care about him and I’ll always love him, he’s a really good person,” the young star said of her ex in March 2024. “I’m lucky because some people have exes that are horrible and he’s not. He’s a really kind and good person.”
