The Empressto rediscover the story of Sissi (Netflix)
On Netflix, don’t hesitate to turn to The Empress. Released in 2022, this German series focuses on the story of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sissi. The series includes a six-episode season in which we get to know the young Bavarian duchess before her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria, normally destined to marry his sister. A second season will be released on Netflix at the end of the year.
Victoria, to discover another queen than that of The Crown (Netflix)
Another platform, another royal family. In Victoria, all three seasons of which are available for free on M6+, we are interested in the famous British sovereign. In parallel with The Crown, which was a hit with Netflix, the English studios ITV launched in 2016 an adaptation of the story of Queen Victoria as a series. The details are authentic and faithful, as are the sumptuous sets and costumes. Jenna Coleman plays the Queen, who we discover beyond her royal function, as a woman with a complex personality.
The BuccaneersA Bridgerton American style (Apple TV+)
If you don’t want to leave the era of the 19th century in England after saying goodbye – temporarily of course – to the Bridgertons, we can only advise you The Buccaneers. Released in 2023, the first season of this Apple TV+ series tells the story of five young wealthy American women in high society in London, in 1870. We see them evolve within this environment that they do not know and in which missteps are very frowned upon. They are all the more to be avoided when young women are on a mission: they want to find a husband. We find in particular Alisha Boe, applauded in 13 Reasons Whyin this series which will also be entitled to a second season.
