Slayer fans rejoiced when the legendary Thrash Metal band announced they would reunite for three festivals in September and October, but they should have no illusions about a proper comeback tour.

In a recent interview with Jonathan Clarke, host of Out Of The Box on Q104.3, New York’s Classic Rock station, Slayer guitarist Kerry King explained that the reunion came about after several years of refusing offers. He was convinced by the timing, which coincided with the fifth anniversary of Slayer’s farewell tour, and the opportunity to “test the waters” with fans.

King insists this is a limited commitment. There are no plans for a new album or tour beyond these three festivals: Aftershock, Riot Fest and Louder Than Life.

The news comes weeks after the release of his solo album From Hell I Rise and King expressing doubts about Slayer reforming in the near future. However, Tom Araya’s wife revealed on social media that she had been encouraging him to reform Slayer for over a year, and his positive response ultimately led to the announcement.

Die-hard fans can look forward to seeing Slayer in concert this fall, but for those hoping for a proper reunion, these three shows seem like the end of the story – for now.
