Iconic System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian has revealed a new solo single titled AF Day, a song that was originally written for his band but was never released. This track is the first extract from his upcoming solo EP, Foundations, which is scheduled for release in September under the Gibson Records label.

Tankian describes AF Day as having a “dystopian vibe” and cites a strong influence from Faith No More. He stated : “This is a song I wrote in the early days of SOAD and never released. The majority of the instrumentation and vocals are recordings from this era. Dystopian, it reflects the anxiety and anti-authoritarian attitude that I had in the face of conformism.”

The Foundations EP was inspired by Tankian’s deep dive into his musical formative years while writing his new autobiography, Down With The System.

In his memoir, Tankian notably reveals a pivotal moment in 2017, when he told System Of A Down to continue without him, leading the band to briefly consider a replacement before making the decision not to.

System Of A Down fans will be able to see the band in concert later this year. On August 17, they will headline with Deftones at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California, marking their second concert of 2024.
