In addition to a petition demanding an investigation into Sajaegi’s allegations regarding BTS, another petition was also sent to the relevant authorities demanding that BTS be stripped of the awards it received from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism .

Having received these petitions on the 2nd, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) plans to forward them to the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), a platform that handles Sajaegi’s accusations, which will verify the facts and will then request explanations from Big Hit Music (HYBE). It is based on the situation that they will thoroughly probe the matter through investigative agencies facilitated by the MCST.

It was in January 2017, when the verdict in the case was made public, that suspicion fell on Sajaegi. A petitioner named A said: “ Going by the verdict, it seems likely that the illegal marketing took place since September 23, 2006, when the law regulating the promotion of the music industry, including Sajaegi, was revised, until ‘to January 11, 2017, the date I received the first email from the accused. Big Hit Music is believed to have been forced to make a large payment following threats. »

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also confirmed that it received a petition on October 3 requesting the revocation of the award awarded to BTS in October 2016 for its contribution to the advancement of Hallyu music.

In this complaint, it is stated that “the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism should carefully choose the winners based on their achievements and make fair evaluations. To ensure an objective and impartial assessment, it should involve subject matter experts if necessary. It is also mentioned in the complaint that “The suspicion of ranking manipulation by BTS is a serious matter that goes against fair competition and the law.

Therefore, in accordance with Article 8, clause 1, sub-clause 1 of the Law on Awards and Article 18, clause 1 of the Government Regulation on Awards, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and of Tourism is required to promptly review the revocation of the award.”

It appears that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to which the complaint was addressed, is currently examining the facts. Internet users wrote:

  • If that’s true, they should remove the award, right?
  • Isn’t this a court decision and not a simple allegation? Why do they keep talking about allegations?
  • Isn’t this award aimed at promoting Korean culture and language around the world? And what does the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have to do with it? He was not even able to resolve the previous Sajaegi case through a court decision. How come they are investigating this matter when it does not even come under the jurisdiction of the judicial authorities?
  • I do not understand the relationship between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the investigation and Sajaegi
  • Following a court decision, why investigate again? Isn’t that obvious?
  • They should return the award, whether it is a medal or a commendation
  • Indeed, athletes must withdraw their medals if they are caught doping, right?
  • Wow, this is getting serious

We should not criticize the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Indeed, in our country, all public institutions must receive petitions and therefore respond to them. Despite the impossibility of accepting all petitions, especially in the case of this controversial issue, we should not blame the person who submitted the petition to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Any cancellation of a prize may be made in accordance with the regulations, and careful consideration should be given to whether the prize was awarded based on the sales performance of the music

  • I don’t think they will return the prices
  • There is no need to investigate since everything is already in the court decision
  • Suspicions ? The court decision has already been made.
  • They actually contributed to the Hallyu wave. Their contribution was significant, even if…
  • I’m not a fan, but why would you want to take it down? It’s exaggerated.
  • ㅋㅋㅋ It’s funny, there is a clear court decision
  • Canceling the price is pushing the envelope too far
  • Suspicion? Investigation ? Isn’t the court’s decision enough?
  • For me the price should be canceled; It all started with Sajaegi
