After several years without applying a by-law due to a lack of staff, the City of Dolbeau-Mistassini has decided to formally apply a by-law concerning in particular the presence of recreational vehicles during the summer season in the Vauvert sector, among other things to guarantee greater tranquility.

But this application is not for everyone, such as those who organize family gatherings. The City has therefore made certain modifications to this by-law. They were presented Tuesday evening during an information session, but are still not unanimous.

Owners in the Vauvert sector could now accommodate another trailer on their land over two separate periods of seven days. Before this change, a ticket was issued to owners who invited other recreational vehicles onto the site they owned.

We were coercive […] These modifications were made based on recommendations from users, either through their body or the league of Vauvert owners, from interventions made directly with advisors here.explained the mayor of Dolbeau-Mistassini, André Guy.

Land owner, Mélanie Morris was present at the meeting on Tuesday evening. Last summer, she tried to stand up to the City, but after receiving two $600 fines, she finally decided to sell her trailer because her sister’s, more modern, will remain on their parents’ land. .

We have large plots of land and peace and quiet, I would tell you, there is no real problemshe believes.

We have our cousins coming, they are two trailers, so we can’t tell them to come at the same time, they won’t be able to. There was a gentleman yesterday (Tuesday) who said that he has four children and that he could no longer accommodate these children at the same time with their trailer. It’s sad. It broke up family life in Vauvert.

In all, around fifty people were present during the public session, which represents a little more than 10% of Vauvert owners.

The final decision of the elected officials of Dolbeau-Mistassini will take place on April 22 during the next public meeting of the municipal council. Amendments could be made to the initial draft regulation. The City does not rule out holding a referendum if the opposition is too strong.

Legislation that provides for a penalty will be in effect until the next bill is passed.
