Jean-Gabriel Martin, one of the former tenors of the Chartres bar, was placed in police custody on Tuesday at the Clamart police station (Hauts-de-Seine).
Investigators suspect him of being involved in an organized gang fraud case in the Paris region. The case concerns a car garage and the sale of vehicles. We do not know, at this stage, the exact nature of the facts of which he is suspected.
Already auditioned
According to our information, the former lawyer was arrested by Hauts-de-Seine police officers, at 6 a.m., avenue de la Paix, in Lèves, in a house belonging to one of his relatives. Plainclothes police conducted a search of the home for more than two hours. They then left the scene, taking Jean-Gabriel Martin in order to place him in police custody. He has already been interviewed this month by Parisian police officers. Is this the same procedure? No information has leaked.
The 73-year-old man, who worked on rue du Grand-Faubourg, in Chartres, experienced several setbacks during his career. In the 2000s, he would not have paid the rent for professional premises in Chartres. The lessor then evicted him in the presence of a bailiff. He also would not have paid rent, still for professional premises, in Champhol.
Delisted in 2024
Jean-Gabriel Martin would also have faced problems with Urssaf. In the 2020s, he was not up to date with his contributions to the Chartres bar. He was therefore omitted from the bar in 2023. He paid off his debt and was reinstated. But he again failed to pay his contributions, leading to new proceedings. Seized, the regional disciplinary council pronounced his dismissal in 2024.
The Chartres Bar Association has also filed a complaint against him for illegal practice of the profession. Asked yesterday, Mr. Bruno Galy, President of the Bar, confirmed our information: “After a complaint, there was an appearance on prior admission of guilt (CRPC). He had been convicted and civil proceedings are underway. »
Dog-eared image
Questioned about complaints filed by clients against Jean-Gabriel Martin, for illegal practice of the profession, the president of the bar replied: “We have no visibility because he is no longer a lawyer and the procedures have been relocated to Versailles. » On the side of the Chartres public prosecutor's office, it was confirmed that cases of illegal exercise of the profession were judged in Versailles.
Jean-Gabriel Martin, who has never been president of the bar, was sworn in at the Chartres bar on April 1, 1981.
He specialized in large-scale cases, pleading, in particular, in favor of suspects involved in drug trafficking. His notoriety, through his skills and his results obtained at the hearings, extended beyond the Centre-Val de Loire region.
Its image seems to have gradually deteriorated in recent years. The former lawyer, a fine connoisseur of the workings of justice, must, this time in the role of a suspect, defend himself from the suspicions of investigators.
We were unable to reach him on his cell phone. Not being in charge of these investigations, the Chartres public prosecutor's office did not wish to comment on this Parisian case.
