This “so British” bear with his gentle gaze is still cute, with his red felt and his blue duffle coat. Paddington returns for a new adventure. And it is to Peru that he takes us, in this new film which comes out on February 5 and which we were able to see in preview at the Alpe d'Huez Comedy Film Festival.

The hero, tender and clumsy, spends peaceful days in London, with the Brown family, who adopted him. One day he receives news from his old aunt Lucy, who lives in a retirement home in the middle of the Peruvian jungle. But this one is depressing. Paddington has the idea of going to see her, to cheer her up. And he takes the whole Brown family with him.

Once there, problem: Aunt Lucie has disappeared. The troop sets out on his trail through the Amazon jungle. But obstacles multiply on their path and countless adventures await them. The bear, addicted to orange marmalade, created by the writer Michael Bond, does not know that this journey will also be a personal quest and a return to his origins.

We are always amazed by the image, a mixture of synthesis and real shots from the “Paddington” saga. In French, the character invented by the writer Michael Bond is voiced by Guillaume Gallienne, who emphasizes his roundness, his gentleness and his phlegm.

The public should be seduced by the settings: ruins of Inca temples, torrents in the middle of mountain peaks covered with lush vegetation, colorful fauna, colorful atmosphere of Peruvian villages. We are amazed. Antonio Banderas as a greedy boat captain, a little stupid, but not so bad, brings a touch of nice humor, a bit heavy-handed. Just like Olivia Colman, as mother superior of the bears' retirement home, who hides her game well.

The whole thing lacks really funny gags. It's cute, touching, full of good feelings, but there are lengths, a little too much emphasis, and we laugh less than in the previous opuses. The plot, for its part, multiplies the twists and turns, giving welcome action film touches. Kids should love it. Possible that the adults are a little bored.
