Wednesday December 25, 2024 at 9:10 p.m., TF1 broadcasts Puss in Boots 2: The Last Quest. Eleven years after the first part of his adventures, the best character in the Shrek universe finally shows his claws on the big screen. But the poor cat is not in the best shape. After being crushed by a huge bell, our hero learns that, out of the nine lives that every cat has, he only has one left. Dejected, he put on his cape, boots and hat for a while before pulling himself together and setting off in search of the Wishing Star in order to ask him to recover his nine lives. In his crazy race, our hero will be able to count on the precious help of Kitty Velvet Paws, his accomplice from the first opus, and Perro, an adorable little tough guy with unconditional good humor and contagious optimism.
What fairy tales are revisited in Puss in Boots 2: The Last Quest ?
Like the saga films Shrek and the previous opus featuring Puss in Boots solo, this new part plays with fairy tale references. In voiceover, the feline hero even begins his story with “Once upon a time…” In his quest, he clashes with several emblematic figures from the stories of our childhood, such as the Big Bad Wolf and a strong-willed Goldilocks at the head of the Three Bears gang. Small downside, however: the screenwriters entrusted the role of the big villain of the story to Big Jack Horner, a hero completely unknown on this side of the Atlantic. We nevertheless forgive them this slightly Anglo-Saxon navel-gazing because they had the good idea of peppering their film with a myriad of more or less strong nods to other fairy tales: vair's slipper Cinderellacake that makes you growAlice in Wonderlandflying carpet of tales of A thousand and one nights… We really get into the game trying to spot them!
Puss in Boots 2: The Last Quest : a sequel 11 years later, why?
Puss in Boots 2… is a really very pleasant film, which will delight young and old alike. Between pure action scenes, moments of emotion and gags galore, it takes the viewer on its crazy adventure. As for the ending, without revealing too much and contrary to what the title of this second opus seems to suggest, it suggests that this quest is not really the last and that a sequel could well see the light of day with a guest… a famous green ogre! Let's just hope we don't have to wait eleven years again to see her. It must be said that between the takeover of DreamWorks studios by Universal in 2016, Antonio Banderas' heart attack in 2017 and the Covid pandemic in 2020, the project was postponed many times before finally seeing the light of day.
